A recycling truck with a trailer attached drives through a community and parks at designated sites on particular days to collect separated recyclable plastic, paper, metal cans and glass. A very large community may be split up into several zones with multiple collection sites.
Individuals bring their materials to the truck where they are checked, weighed and exchanged for a monetary value that is paid into their eWallet account in real time. The material prices are set by the owner-operator of the unit and determined according to the current market value for each material type.
Once a collection is finished, the materials are loaded into the truck and trailer and removed from the site, leaving no trace.
Individuals from the community will collect and separate their recyclable packaging.
On the allocated day, the PACKA-CHING truck will arrive in the community at its designated collection site.
Individuals bring in their separated materials, which are checked, weighed and loaded into bulk bags.
The money for the materials, according to the current market price for each type, is then loaded into the individual’s eWallet account to complete the transaction. The customer receives a receipt to confirm the transaction and the amount earned.
The funds are immediately available to spent at any participating merchant, to purchase airtime on the platform or to transfer to anyone with a cell phone in South Africa.
